Geri's Big Surprise!

31st July:
Geri was in for a big surprise. Unbeknown to him, a new Zip Storm kart with Honda four-strole engine had been ordered for him. Aiden at Rogue Racing had sworn the staff to secrecy and had arranged the delivery of Geri's first race kart. Somehow, Geri was kept in the dark for the four weeks we had to wait for it to arrive, but finally, today was the big day!

We told Geri we needed to fetch something big for his grandfather, that explained to him why we were out in the Nyssa Racing truck, and also why his grandparents were following on behind. Even as we arrived at Rogue Racing, Geri was none the wiser. We told him we were collecting a shelf from the unit next door, but as the unit was closed, we might as well pop into the kart centre and wait there.

Aiden had done us proud, he acted surprised to see Geri and asked if he would like to see his race kart. We led Geri out back and Aiden showed off his kart. He then asked if Geri would like to see their new junior kart which was sitting on a trolley next to his. The kart was unveiled, then Aiden asked if Geri would like to sit it in, so the kart was lifted down to the floor.

Amazingly, Geri still had no clue, so he sat in his kart at which point we told him it was his! Geri was speechless!

The bad news for Geri is that he cannot drive it for the first time for another two weeks! We hope to take him over to Rye House on 16th August for a day's testing. Aiden has offered to come over and help with initial set-up, which is a great relief as Geri's dad is mechanically inept! Somehow the 16th cannot come round fast enough for Geri.

It had been a long day for Geri and he was already tired before fetching his kart - now he was overwhelmed. The following morning he woke up and asked how many days until the 16th, and could he go and see his kart again - it is kept at his grandparents' where there is more garage space, so on Saturday we went over to have another look!

If all goes to plan, we will set up the kart on 16th August and Geri can enjoy a full day testing, learning how the kart behaves. We then hope to be able to take his ARKS test on 23rd August at Rye House after which he should be eligible to race. Its too late to make any inroads on a championship this year so we will attempt to run Geri in races at Rye House, and maybe the other local circuits at Whilton Mill and Shenington in order to gain experience ready for 2009.
